Galle ( February 1, 2025): Australia defeated Sri Lanka by an innings and 242 runs in the first Test match, taking a 1-0 lead in the two-match series. Usman Khawaja was named Player of the Match for his brilliant double century.
On the fourth day of the Test match played at Galle International Stadium, Sri Lanka was bowled out for 165 in response to Australia’s massive first-innings total of 654 runs, forcing them to follow on. Dinesh Chandimal was the top scorer with 72 runs, while Matthew Kuhnemann took five wickets.
Even in the second innings, Sri Lanka failed to deliver a strong performance and was bowled out for 247 runs. Jeffrey Vandersay scored 53, while Angelo Mathews contributed 41 runs. Matthew Kuhnemann and Nathan Lyon both claimed four wickets each.
Usman Khawaja was awarded Player of the Match for his outstanding knock of 232 runs.
